Notes From a Creative Studio That Doesn’t Really Believe in Trends
Every year, the internet inundates us with a fresh list of trends that are supposedly poised to define the upcoming twelve months. These trends encompass a wide array of elements, including new colors that capture the zeitgeist of the moment, innovative fonts that challenge traditional typography, aesthetics that reflect current cultural shifts, and new rules that dictate how we engage with design and branding. Each year, design enthusiasts, marketers, and businesses alike eagerly anticipate these trends, believing they hold the key to staying relevant in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
However, as the months roll on, it becomes increasingly clear that most of these trends fade into obscurity, leaving little to no lasting impact. The initial excitement surrounding them often dissipates as quickly as it arose, replaced by the next wave of fleeting fads. This cycle of trends coming and going is a well-documented phenomenon, and it leads us to a crucial realization about brand development.
That’s precisely why we’ve never been particularly interested in building brands around trends. While trends can be fun and engaging, providing inspiration and sparking new ideas, they are inherently unstable and should not serve as the foundation of a brand. A brand built on the shifting sands of trends risks becoming irrelevant as soon as the tides change. Instead, we believe in focusing on elements that endure over time, those that resonate on a deeper level with audiences and create lasting connections.
We’re much more interested in the things that last: a memorable name that sticks in people's minds, a strong story that captivates and engages, an unexpected detail that delights and surprises, and a product that people genuinely want to share with their friends and family. These are the kind of attributes that remain significant even when the Pinterest boards have moved on to the next obsession or when the latest design trends have been cast aside. It is this timeless quality that we aim to cultivate in our branding efforts.
The brands we admire most possess a timeless quality that transcends the whims of fashion. They do not feel old-fashioned or out of touch; rather, they are rooted in something deeper than mere aesthetics. These brands have a clear understanding of what they stand for, and everything else, be it their visual identity, marketing strategies, or product offerings, serves as an expression of that core purpose. This alignment between values and presentation creates a cohesive brand image that resonates with consumers on a profound level.
The goal has never been to be trendy; the goal is to be recognizable. We aspire to create something that feels unmistakably yours, something that stands out in a crowded marketplace and leaves a lasting impression. Because in the long run, that’s what people remember. It’s not the trend that lingers in their minds; it’s the feeling that your brand evokes. It’s the connection they form with your story, the emotions your product inspires, and the authenticity that shines through your messaging. These are the elements that forge lasting relationships between brands and their audiences, ensuring that they remain relevant long after the trends have come and gone.
